As part of the conference and events sector, freelance interpreters have been hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis. However, CIUK members have continued to work hard during this period of cancelled and postponed contracts: attending talks and webinars, networking and upskilling. Some of us have been able to provide distance interpreting to enable multilingual communication at this difficult time.

One of the positive outcomes of the crisis has been the chance to engage more closely with the wider MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) industry. PRIMS, representing the Private Market Sector of our professional association AIIC, has led the way.

This article sets out the PRIMS approach and takes a look at the future ahead of us: hybrid events and a greater emphasis on quality, diversity and wellbeing. Our members, who are all AIIC interpreters, will have a key role to play in enabling this future of diverse, inclusive, multilingual meetings.
